    Coat knobs extend straight out from the attachment surface.  They have enlarged ends or knobs to help retain coats, jackets, robes and hats. Coat knobs and coat pegs are similar.  The enlarged end is what distinguishes a coat knob from a coat peg, which is simply a straight cylinder with maybe a notch or two.
